Fitzrovia

Fitzrovia is the area that lies to the north of Oxford Street, east of Portland Place, south of Marylebone Road and west of Tottenham Court Road. Historically most residential accommodation in the area had insecure tenancy agreements and so was populated by struggling artists and self-employed tradesmen, as well as rapidly growing immigrant groups who took advantage of the cheap rooms available and thus gave Fitzrovia its distinctive diverse and bohemian character. Latter day Fitzrovia has much changed as the area has caught up with its neighbours although it does retain as slightly more community village feeling than it’s neighbouring areas .
